The end is now!

This is a dream I had a few years ago. (Because of my depression episode, it is very hard for me to distinguish between the years, so I’m sorry about not knowing when I had this dream.)

I was in the middle of a park. It was night time and all around me I saw horrible things happening, such as people being raped, hurting and killing each other, cursing, robbing, screaming and fighting. Many horrid scenes all happening at once. There were lots of people doing these things, along with lots of victims. I felt confused and afraid and desperately wanted to ask someone what was happening. As I looked for someone that was not participating in any of these things, I saw something (in a tall, strong, human form, wearing black) that was just watching everything happen. I remember thinking it was a demon, but not being sure. As I was so desperate to talk to someone, I asked it, and it didn’t respond immediately. It just looked around at the things that were happening with a sad and disturbed expression and afterwards said things to me like, “Don’t you people see? You don’t notice us! You don’t care! It is like we are doing these things in vain! Urrrrgh!” It then started walking/gliding with me and suddenly we were in the middle of a church temple, where lots of people were congregating. Some were singing and very happy, some had their hands in the air, some were day dreaming, some were bored. There was also a pastor in front of the congregation saying that the end was going to happen some time in the near future. I could see through the walls of this church, and all the bad things were happening at the same time and I tried to find someone in the church that saw the same thing as me, but found nobody. I thought to myself, “These people are blind! They don’t see what’s going on!” The creature then came in front of me (I was the only one that could see it) and started shouting very angrily, “You keep saying that the end is coming, but you don’t see! You don’t know! It’s not coming! It’s happening right now! This is it! The end of times is NOW!”

And then I woke up from this very disturbing nightmare-dream which I still don’t know the true meaning/motive of. It either had a scaring or awaring purpose… or both. Do you think we’re living in the end of times?

May God set us apart and protect us from this world that’s full of sin and tragedy, delivering us from the evil that’s all around.

Should Christians only listen to Christian songs?

This is a topic that has been bugging me for a few days and so I’ve been doing some research and praying about it. I’ll try to summarise a few points over here and would greatly appreciate your thoughts, even if you are not a follower of Christ.

Music’s influence.

It has been proven, through various studies, that music influences humans in both good and bad ways provoking instant and long-lasting effects in emotional, spiritual and physical ways. Music also has the power of affecting learning and memory. Researches indicate that music can have profound psychological effects not only on people but also on animals and plants.

In other words… IT DOES MATTER what type of music you’re listening to because IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Music in the Bible.

It is very interesting to learn about the history of music in the Bible and how music appears in the Bible, to learn how music originally was in the Biblical time. For those who’d like to read the references, here are the verses that have the word “music” in them and here and here are verses that have to do with music also.

Notice that music is always used as a way of praising God.

Contemporary Christian Music – CCM.

These are two interesting sites to read: A Biblical Theology of Music Applied to the Contemporary Music Styles Debate and Biblical Guidelines for Christian Music. Remember to read them critically, praying for the Lord’s confirmation of what is written on them before making up your mind on the subject. Basically, Christians have to beware about a few things when they listen to music, such as:

  • What does the lyric/message of the song glorify (God, man, partying)?
  • How do you feel when you listen to the song (joyful, miserable, powerful, angry)?
  • Does the song edify your spirit and bring you closer to God?
  • Are you making an idol of the musician or band? (God is a jealous God…)
  • Would Jesus listen to such a song? Or be happy you are listening to it?
  • Does it contain bad language? Or make you think about immoral things?
  • Which “part” of you enjoys the song (body, soul or spirit)?

I believe, therefore, that by abstaining from non-Christian music and contemporary Christian music that doesn’t praise the Lord, we are pleasing God and sanctifying ourselves – and therefore becoming more similar to Jesus Christ, who’s perfect. And even if the lyrics are Christian-like, we have to be careful about it’s tune too, for the spiritual world also uses notes in battle. (Be careful with rock, metal…) The Bible always refers to music as melody, not rhythm or beat.

It’s important to remember that our whole lives belong to Him and every aspect of it should give Him glory. Also, God was the one who invented music, ears to hear and vocal cords, so praising Him through songs was already part of His plan – in fact, we ought to do so! It is of no doubt that God has given the gift of music to some people but, unfortunately, most use their gift for praise of themselves, money, fame and other worldly things. Something else that is very interesting to think about is that the Bible never says music is to be used to reach out to the unsaved and bring them to Christ. In fact, it was never used that way in the Bible! I’m not saying music can’t bring people to Christ; I’m saying that is not God’s purpose for music.

Lord, forgive me for taking so long to realise these things. I am sorry that I do not always praise You through the music I hear, play and sing. Please help me to put what I’ve learnt into practice and give me more wisdom so that I may learn more about Your Kingdom. Amen.

Sunday night. Back from church.

“You can go ahead, honey. I don’t feel like sleeping yet”, he said, while taking off his coat. “But I’ll miss you”, she said, pulling him by his hand. Feeling his mind was wondering about something that had nothing to do with the her words and not getting the eye contact she wanted, she sighed, let go of him and added, “Try not staying up too late.” Hayley put on the grey vintage pyjamas she won as a wedding present from her cousin, brushed her teeth and smiled remembering the wonderful honeymoon she had with her husband 8 months ago, wishing she could go back in time and relive those golden days. Everything seemed so different now, but maybe that was normal. After all, she thought to herself, relationships shouldn’t be based in sexual romance, and she should be grateful her companion realised that too. Kyle was in the living-room, sitting on his favourite chair. His thick brown hair covered one eye while the other was fixed on the laptop screen. “Hot babes” was typed on a search page and his usual Sunday night porn tour had begun. Click. It’s just one after all. Click. Just a few. Click. Faster breaths. Click. Legs more apart. Click. Muscle tension. Click. Swallow. Click. Self control. Click. Hands sweating. Click. 2 o’clock. Click. Click. Click. Click click click click click… “Kyle?” Puffing. “Kyle!” He turns around. “I can’t sleep,” Hayley said, dragging a pillow on the floor. She gets closer and sees Kyle’s tears. “Sweetie, what’s wrong?” Kyle stops her from hugging him and maximizes his web page. A picture of a naked woman in a sensual pose appears. “This. THIS is wrong!” Kyle cries. “This woman. These women! This is so stupid! I’M so stupid! I don’t understand!” Hayley just stood there, paralysed, looking at the screen. “Hayley, I love you. Will you ever forgive me?” “How long?” “How long what?” “For how long have you been doing this?” “I’m sorry.” “HOW LONG?” “Every Sunday night… about 4 months ago I think. I’m not sure… I…” “Goodbye, Kyle.” “Hayley, no! Wait!” She rushed off out of the house’s front door and ran desperately in hope of a solution, only stopping at an old rusted window to look at her reflection. “Hayley! Please!” Kyle’s voice echoed in the road. He was at the other side of it and ran towards her. He knelt down and hugged her legs while she stayed in silent. The cold wind cut their faces and sent Hayley to the ground. “Leave me alone!”, she cried, “I hate you!” But Kyle just held on tighter.

So, I was going to make a short story out of this, but have just realised it’d take several of pages to write what’s happened to both of them, that would explain when Kyle’s addiction to porn started and how Hayley lived and regained hope in true love after the incident. I’ll leave it up to you to imagine the rest of the drama and think about this issue. Have fun! 🙂

Oh, and by the way, it’s a fact that Sunday night is the time that most people look at porn. Right after going to a church meeting, yes. For those who’d like to know more about the subject, are struggling with it or knows someone that is and would like to help them, take a look at this site: xxxchurch

“If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.” – Matthew 5:29

“And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.” – Matthew 18:9

“And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,” – Mark 9:47

Which part of the Trinity should Christians pray to?

We should pray to God, who is 3 in one, according to the Christian doctrine of the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Comparing to what Muslims think, believing in the Trinity is not shirk because, for Christians, it does not go against tawhid.

If we go deeper in this subject, we’ll see that the Trinity members each have a specific “outcome” when it comes to praying:
– We should direct our prayers to the FatherMatt 6:6 and Matt 6:9; 1 Pet 1:17; Eph 3:14
– We should pray in the Son‘s (Jesus’) name. John 14:13-14
– We should pray empowered by the Holy SpiritEph 6:18Romans 8:26-27

If you want to understand this topic deeper, I encourage you to go through this lesson and read these articles: Pray to God the Father in the Name of Jesus Christ and Praying to the Father in Jesus Name By Tom Brown.

Come on, Christians! Prayer is very important, so let’s pray correctly!
